Human beings function in three primary realms: the physical, biochemical, and psycho-emotional-spiritual. Because this final realm is wholly unseen and essentially intangible, I refer to it as the “virtual.”
Unless balance exists among and within the realms, day-to-day life reflects discrepancies in the form of physical ailments, physiological dysfunction, and/or, emotional distress. More commonly, imbalance among the three realms expresses itself as a life wrought with fear, doubt, anxiety, depression, and many other possible symptoms of an imbalance in the unseen, virtual realm.
The human tendency is to localize treatment of physical symptoms to the system in which they appear. It must be remembered that the physical being and biological processes are not isolated entities, but actually provide influence for the organism as a whole. Since each of the realms is merely an aspect of the same human experience, every disease has a component of each of the realms and each realm has the seeds of every disease. Differentiating between illnesses traceable to somatic causes, and those that appear to mimic them, can often be accomplished by observing the relationships between mind and body, the emotions and their expressions.
Often, it is easy to be deceived by functional disturbances of the nervous system that represent a physiological interaction between the physical and virtual realms. This discrepancy in diagnosis persists because of a natural tendency to gravitate toward a more tangible reality. Often, a virtual disruption provides the foundation for the expression of related symptoms in another realm.
They quickly resolve once identified and the patient is recognized to be a whole person representative of the sum of all of his or her parts. However, a functional dynamic that includes the influences of intangible origins must first be acknowledged to achieve this perspective. These influences can eventually be considered to be causal factors of the resulting imbalance.
